Camden Lions Help Residents After Tornado

Camden Lions provide relief to northside residents after tornado topples buildings and trees on Sunday, May 22nd, 2011. The Lions applied that day for emergency funding from Lions Club International. Camden Lions received $10,000 to purchase non-perishable groceries to fill 430 bags, and allotted $4000 of bulk groceries to supply the food shelf at Sanctuary CDC.

The Camden Lions also have been receiving donations from other clubs across Minnesota and Canada for local assistance. The members of the club have decided to work primarily with Habitat for Humanity and their commitment to help fix ten homes in North Minneapolis. Habitat takes applications for assistance and screens them for the best use of funding. To date, the Camden Lions have received over $12,000 to assist with getting residents back into their homes.

Club members have been joined by volunteers from other Lions Clubs around the metro to provide other sorts of aid. Volunteers have staffed a table at the disaster center to provide exams and glasses to replace what was lost. Others came together to clean up neighborhoods, while others bought groceries, provided transportation, and bagged groceries to be distributed.
